ARBROATH SUITE
LAURA McGHEE

BACKGROUND
"The Arbroath Suite" is a musical journey through Scottish history, from the Battle of Bannockburn and the Declaration of Arbroath till the present day.
I started writing the music in 2005, when I premiered the piece in New York at Ellis Island and  Arbroath Abbey, Angus.Scotland, where the declaration was signed in 1320.
2008 saw the premiere of the suite with a renowned ensemble of Scottish musicians at the Webster Theatre in Arbroath and the Oran Mor in Glasgow, which integrated our "Arbroath Suite Schools Project"where
workshops with the kids produced an art mural of the timeline of Scotland's most historic events, as a backdrop to the performances.
The City Of Discovery Charity Concert, on June of 2011, heralded the symphonic premiere of the "Arbroath Suite" with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, orchestrated by Oliver Searle. I am so excited to begin new orchestral opportunities with this piece, and am look forward to performing and extending the ASPROJECT, through performances and workshops both nationally and internationally.
